Media

Media must visit as approved guests of an institution with a national coordinating role and a presence here. German media, for example, contact AWI. NPI is the contact for Norwegian media and for countries without a presence.

Your visit must be approved before you book transport or rooms.

Official visits

NPI hosts all official visits. Send the request through your embassy in Oslo, which contacts the relevant Norwegian ministry. NPI then plans the visit with the ministries, Kings Bay and the institutions involved. Ask as early as you can.

Tourists

Visits by non-scientists are kept to a minimum, though cruise ships make short port calls. If you come ashore:

Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth within 20 km of Ny-Ålesund.
Walk on roads and boardwalks only. Measurements, sampling sites and heritage may not be visible.
